Eco-Act Eco-village Adaptation to Climate Change in Tanzania
The ECO-ACT project (Ecovillage Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Tanzania) is supported by the European Union’s Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA), via the Ministry of Finance EDF Office. The project aims at increasing the capacity of vulnerable rural Tanzanian communities to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change, and reduce poverty. This will be achieved through scaling up best innovations in agriculture, livestock, energy, natural resources and water from Chololo Ecovillage; capacity development and information dissemination. The project will result in improvement in productivity and social services, lowered carbon footprint and empowered local government institutions to plan and implement climate change adaptation and mitigation interventions. The ECO-ACT project builds upon the success of the EU funded Chololo Ecovillage project, which supported a climate-vulnerable community to test, evaluate and share a range of innovative adaptation technologies and approaches. The Chololo Ecovillage project resulted in major improvements in food security, increased incomes – especially for women, and increased resilience to climate change. The story of Chololo Ecovillage can be seen at http://chololoecovillage.wordpress.com/" rel="nofollow">http://chololoecovillage.wordpress.com.
